About Arundika Weerasekera

I'm Arundika. A young designer, who thirves to be a great designer. I'm Sri Lankan from birth. A country with a rich cultural heritage and strong norms. 24 years of my life was shaped in Sri Lanka and I was eager to find more on what life has to offer for an aspiring creative.

In 2019, after finishing my undergraduate degree in Architecture and working as an Intern Architect for 1 year, I flew to Europe, the design destination to find myself and what I want to do in the future. I attended an architecture/design workshop done by the Architectural Association in Milan. The workshop was all about linking architecture and fashion design – ‘Resilient SKIN-code’. I enjoyed the 2 week workshop very much and this workshop gave me a clear vision for the future.

I moved to Manchester a month ago to follow my dreams and create a life that I would love. I started continuing to pursuing my dream to be an Architect while continuing to find myself as a young fashion designer

Architecture, in my opinion is one of the strongest creative fields. It has the ability to change the world by simply giving life to your clients dream. And I believe the way forward as a creative is finding links between each creative field and finding solutions collectively and brainstorming together.

OPEN AIR FESTIVAL

Tropical lifestyle is the identity of Sri Lanka. The summery vibe, breezy surroundings and coconut trees are vital parts of the tropical lifestyle. Introducing the tropical lifestyle to the European community is a challenge. It is a new, unusual experience. The project focuses on how this unique Sri Lankan tropical experience is introduced to Europeans, while infusing it with their culture and comfortability.

RESIDENCE, JAWATTE GARDENS

The project was to design a two storey residence for a family of three. The house overlooks a garden from one side and the Jawatte road from the other side. It is a house with a very homely warmness, merging with the outdoor garden with large glass doors and windows. The interior of the house is further inspired by the modern tropical Sri Lankan architectural style. The vibrant colour choices with elegant furniture brings more value to the residence.

CENTRAL COLOMBO FIRE STATION

A Fire Station is an important aspect of any metropolitan city. It protects people in fire related accidents and a larger aim is to create awareness about fire related issues. The existing Central Colombo Fire station has failed to cater to the people of Colombo to its best potential. Delays in fire drills, less occupants, fire trucks and faults in functional spaces have resulted in a project that envisions a redesigned Central Colombo Fire Station with hopes of making ita better service provider. The project aims to design a new fire station that caters to the present and future of the main metropolitan city of Sri Lanka, Colombo.

MARITIME CULTURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

As they live on an Island located in the Indian Ocean, Maritime Culture has always been a significant part of the lives of Sri Lankans. But often, this glorious maritime history of the country is forgotten and ignored. Would an iconic maritime cultural history museum be able to highlight this forgotten history and celebrate the real capabilities of the Sri Lankan and his close relationship with the ocean?

WETLAND CENTER - TECHNICAL RESOLUTION

The project was mainly focused on producing a technical resolution report for a design done in a natural wetland. The design is executed by separating the main function of the conservation center into four major building units thus reducing the impact on the environment. Few main details of the complete report is shown herewith.
